According to some historians, the toponym Sardoura is of Arabic origin and means going around, an idea taken from the countless turns that the stream takes in the valleys and hills of this parish. The inquiries from 1258 refer largely to the lands of Sardoura, highlighting that the Main Church was, at the beginning of the 16th century, owned by the Count of Marialva, D. Francisco Coutinho.
It was elevated to town by Law No. 78/2003 on July 1, 2003.

Geography
The settlement of this land is very remote, judging by the existence of two mountains, S. Gens and S. Paúl, whose topography makes them eminently suitable for the Castro defense, as they are almost a kilometer away from each other.
